Based on 16 Real Austin Demolitions
Not industry averages — this is built directly from tonnage and haul counts on demolitions we’ve actually completed in the Austin area. Estimate your debris, container count, and what drives the biggest swings before you plan the job.
1. Structure square footage
Total footprint being demolished
2. Foundation type
3. How much is still inside?
This drives the estimate more than square footage does

We’ll walk the site and confirm container count & pricing — hauling cost varies by access, distance, and debris mix.
Two of our real jobs make this obvious: a roughly 2,150 sq. ft. slab home generated 217 tons because it was still full of contents at demo time, while a similarly-sized ~2,180 sq. ft. slab home generated just 45 tons because it had already been cleared out. Same footprint, nearly 5x the debris. Square footage sets the baseline; what’s left inside the structure is what actually moves the number. That’s why our calculator asks about contents level instead of just running square footage through a flat formula.

These are 16 residential demolitions we’ve completed in the Austin area — real square footage, real hauled tonnage, real load counts. It’s not an industry rule of thumb; it’s our own hauling records.
Because that’s what the real data shows — even within the same foundation type, tonnage per square foot varies by roughly 5x across our completed jobs, driven mostly by how much was left inside at demo time. A single made-up-precise number would be less honest than a real range.
Not yet — every job in our current dataset is a single-story teardown. We’ll add a 2-story option once we have real completed jobs to base it on rather than guessing at a multiplier.
Hauling cost depends on site access, distance, and how the debris is mixed, which we’d rather confirm by walking your site than guess at online. Tonnage and load count are what we can estimate reliably up front.
Usually, yes. Concrete is heavy relative to volume and can max out a container’s weight limit fast if it’s mixed with general debris. We’ll help you plan the right container mix on-site.
